[Also in Division G2] In a tachistoscope, a disc 40 is rotationally accelerated by a spring system (not shown) and, after a part of one rotation only, is brought to rest by a brake assembly 64, (shown exploded), which includes a shaft 90 which is itself mounted to the housing 34. The assembly comprises an element 102 fixed to the shaft, an element 104 constituted by the inner side of housing wall 34, two friction discs 108, 110, and an element 96 which may move on shaft 90. When a lug 132 on the disc 40 strikes a plate 100 on element 96, elements 102, 96 and discs 108, 110 rotate with the shaft and friction develops between the end element 104 and the disc 110 only, but when the free play of the keyed end 92 of shaft 90 is taken up in the slot 118 of a fixed spring part 114 then the shaft and element 102 can no longer rotate and the element 96 moves relative to the shaft thereby generating an additional amount of friction because of discs 108, 110.
