Abstract
1281130 Spinning machine for synthetic filaments VICKERS-ZIMMER AG PLANTING UND BAU VON INDUSTRIEANLAGEN 9 June 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 27895/70 Heading B5B A process for the continuous treatment and collection of synthetic filaments produced by melt spinning and subsequent cooling and solidification comprises wetting the filaments at one location, applying a lubricating spin finish to the filaments at another location and winding the filaments on to a spool or bobbin at a winding location, the solidified filaments being optionally drawn between the wetting location and winding location, and in which the filaments are formed as a substantially flat sheet of parallel filaments which is advanced along a substantially horizontal path from the wetting location to the spin finish applying location and then downwardly from the spin finish applying location to the winding location whereby all the filaments travel substantially the same distance from the wetting location to the winding location, thereby formed on a rotatable bobbin, the bundles of filaments after leaving one or more spinnerets each provided with a multiplicity of extrusion orifices and passing through a cooling shaft or quenching chamber in which they are cooled and solidified by a cross-flow of air. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in an apparatus adapted for carrying out the process of the invention, the filaments 2 withdrawn from the spinning tube 1 pass through a guide 3 by means of which the bundle or bundles of filaments are formed into a flat sheet of parallel filaments and are thereafter coated with moisture by travelling over a rotatable roller 4 which is partly immersed in a water bath. From the roller 4 the sheet of wetted filaments passes over a guide roller 5, travels in a substantially horizontal path to a second guide roller 6 from which it travels in a horizontal path to a rotable roller 7 partly immersed in a bath of a lubricating spin finish. After passing round the roller 7, whereby the spin finish is applied to the filaments, the sheet of filaments passes over a third guide roller 8 and travels downwards in a generally vertical direction to the winding unit 9 which in this embodiment is double sided. The sheet of filaments is divided into two sheets which are led to both sides of the unit 9. Each sheet of filaments is led by means of a change device 10 to a winding spool or reel 12, each of which is driven by a friction roller 11 and is mounted on an L-shaped arm 12 pivoted at 15 whereby the spools can be pivoted away from the winding unit for removal when full and for substitution of an empty spool.
