NIPPONDENSO KK 2 July 1970 32110/70 Heading H2A In a starter motor, Fig. 1, for an I.C. engine, having situated outside the motor housing 10 a contactor 25 whose switch contact is connected to one end 23 of the motor field winding 12 by a stranded cable 24 which passes through a sealing bush 26 fitted in the housing, penetration of water into the housing by capillary action between the cable strands is prevented by providing, Fig. 4, at the connecting point within the housing between the ends of the cable and field winding, an insulating coating 28 which rests against the bush and covers the gaps between the individual strands and the bore of the bush. The coating 28 is made integrally with the winding insulation either before, or after, assembly with the bush, and whilst as shown it fits in the bush bore it may alternatively, Fig. 5, extend over the bush periphery.
