Abstract
1369022 Dynamo-electric machines; electric couplings NIPPONDENSO CO Ltd 22 Dec 1971 [27 Dec 1970] 59747/71 Headings H2A and H2E A rotary electric machine, suitable for use as a starter motor for vehicle engines, comprises a cylindrical yoke 21, Fig. 3, insulated at least on its inner surface and carrying a plurality of poles 23 each having a pole shoe insulated on its surface facing the yoke, and a plurality of field coils 22 wound on the poles, the gaps between the turns of the coils, between the coils and the yoke and between the coils and the pole shoes being filled with insulation. Thermoplastic or thermosetting resins may be used as the insulation. The coils are formed by winding continuously and directly on the pole bodies a wire assembly comprising a plurality of randomly bundled electrically insulated wires. An additional winding 33, Fig. 9 (not shown), referred to as a brake winding, is also wound round the poles and embedded in the same insulation as the field coils. In use of the machine, the additional winding is connected in parallel with the armature. A portion of the wire assembly may be brought out between two poles for connection to a terminal, so eliminating the need for lead wires. The wires are connected to the terminal using a connector 37, Fig. 13, comprising a sleeve 35 with an inner coating of low melting-point metal such as tin, lead, solder or zinc. On placing the connector over a looped portion of the wire assembly (Fig. 11) and passing a current through it, the insulation on the wires melts and the coating 36 fuses to connect the sleeve 35 to the wires.
