Abstract

1281013 Making burners BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 26 May 1970 [14 July 1969] 35328/69 Heading B3A [Also in Division F4] A method of making a burner comprises compressing a heat degradable interlayer 15 between a sheet of porous material 17 and a base plate 13, joining the base plate to the sheet, and heating the compressed sandwich to degrade the interlayer 15 so as to create fluid passages for the burner. The base plate 13 with perforations 14 is placed on a former 11 having pegs 12 and a polystyrene interlayer 15 with perforations 16 is placed on the plate 13, the pegs projecting through the perforations 14 and 16. A block of metal sponge is placed on top of the pegs 12 and a pressure plate 10 moved downwardly to force the block 17 around the interlayer 15 and into contact with the base plate to form a seam. The compressed sandwich is then heated to 500- 1000‹ C. so as to destroy the polystyrene.
