Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a clad steel plate of which the intermediate layer is made as thin as possible by interposing an intermediate material between a cladding material and a base material, subjecting these to diffusion welding then to hot rolling. CONSTITUTION:The respective joining surfaces of copper, copper alloy or stainless steel as a cladding material 1, ordinary steel or low alloy steel as a base metal 2, and a nickel foil or nickel sheet as an intermediate material 3 are polished and defatted, after which the material 3 are inserted between the material 1 and the material 2. The superposed materials are put in a vacuum chamber 4, and while these are heated with a heater 5, they are pressurized with a press machine 6, and are subjected to diffusion welding. Thence, the joined slab is heated up to rolling temp. with an ordinary heating furnace and is thereafter hot rolled down to a required size with an ordinary hot rolling mill 7. In this way, a clad steel plate 8 consisting of the cladding material 1, the base material 2 and the intermediate material 3 is obtained.
