128,098. Reynolds, W. G. W., and Kendall, H. Oct. 8, 1918. Folding edges of sheet material.-A machine for cutting a length of sheet material into a series of longitudinal narrow strips and folding over and forming hems on the edges of the strips comprises rotary cutters 1<a>, 2a, Fig. 2, a guide-plate 4 having a series of tongues 4a, Fig. 5, and vertical slits 4b, and a shaft 5 having spaced collars 5<a>, intermediate cutters 1<b>, 2<b> being arranged so that the material is cut longitudinally into separate strips having a hem one side and a plain non-folded edge on the opposite side. Members 4<c> on the guide-plate 4 and disks 5b on the shaft 5 serve to separate the adjacent unfolded cut edges of the strips, which are wound separately on a roller 9. The intermediate cutters may be dispensed with, the strips of fabric passing through a guide-plate having vertical slits acting on one edge only of the strips.
