Abstract

1280853 Discharge tube relay-operating circuits SCHARPENACK & CO 29 Oct 1969 [14 June 1969] 52975/69 Heading H3P An operating circuit for a time-delay relay includes a discharge tube in series with the relay and in parallel with a timing capacitor. As shown in the Figure, the circuit comprises a relay 9 arranged to operate a changeover contact 15. In use, when a supply is connected to terminals 1, 2, the capacitor 5 charges through resistors 6, 7, and, after a time determined by the setting of the variable resistor 6, becomes sufficiently charged to fire the tube 3. The current through the tube is now sufficient to operate the relay 9 and to changeover contact 15 so that a holding current can flow through a resistor 14 in series with the relay. The capacitor 5 can also discharge through the resistor 14, and the tube 3 ceases operation. If the relay is de-energized, or if the tube 3 does not operate, the capacitor 5 can discharge through another resistor 13, and a further discharge path may also be provided by way of the resistor 14 and a terminal 16.
