Abstract

1280763 Making turbines SIEMENS AG 27 Feb 1970 [28 Feb 1969] 9731/70 Heading B3A [Also in Division F1] A method of mounting a nozzle blade 2 in a turbine housing member 3 comprises, forming apertures 10, 9 substantially conforming in cross-section to the blades, through a wall 5 and into an opposite wall 4, inserting the blade in the apertures, and sealing any portions of the apertures which would allow leakage of the working fluid so as to retain the blade in position. The apertures 10, 9 are formed preferably by spark erosion or electro-chemically and when the blades are in position a small clearance 14 is provided to allow for differential expansion between the blades and mounting, which have different coefficients of expansion. A plate 13 is welded to the wall part 5 to seal the apertures 10, the plate being so disposed that a weld bead 13b secures the blades. Assembled members (3<SP>1</SP>) are inserted into unions (16) formed on a turbine casing 15, Fig. 2 (not shown). Collars (18) on the housings (3<SP>1</SP>) have part conical abutment surfaces (19) and the members are secured to the casing by nuts (20), which engage an external thread on the members. The nuts are also externally threaded and are screwed into the turbine casing.
