1280504 Filling bags CENTRA ANSTALT 26 Aug 1969 [31 Oct 1968] 42410/69 Heading B8C A machine for filling bags of plastics material with metered quantities of liquid comprises a frame 2 adapted to be indexed about an axis 3 and carrying a plurality of jaws 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP>, each adapted to be opened and closed and to hold by suction the open edges of a bag to be filled, metering means 6 adapted to deliver a metered quantity of liquid into a bag held by a pair of jaws below the metering means, a supply device 7 for supplying the empty bags at the beginning of a filling cycle, a pair of welding jaws 8 for thermo-impulse welding together the open edges of each bag after filling, the indexing motion being imparted to the frame by means of a Geneva wheel mechanism 10 and there being holding means 11, for holding the frame 2 in a predetermined position during each dwell period of the frame, the holding means being connected for actuation by a first cam 13 which also controls operation of the metering means 6 and including a second cam 17 adapted to arrange for the closing of the bags after the filling but before the commencement of movement of the frame 2. As shown, cams 18, 19, 20 on a shaft 51 control the introduction of the bags and the welding jaws 8. The Geneva wheel is actuated by a pin 38 on a disc 39 rotated by the shaft 51. On its under surface, the wheel is engageable by a pin 11 actuated by a lever 40 controlled by the cam 13. The cam 17 operates an arm (48), Fig. 8 (not shown), which swings a tappet means (54) into engagement with a pivot (56) to close the jaws 4.
