1280307 N-substituted fatty acid amides SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 30 Sept 1969 [2 Oct 1968] 48088/69 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Novel N-substituted fatty acid amides of the formula wherein R is a saturated or unsaturated C 15-25 aliphatic hydrocarbon chain, optionally substituted by OH, and R<SP>1</SP> is 1-(C 1-4 alkyl)-1-(C 5-7 cycloalkyl) - methyl, 1 - (C 5-7 cycloalkyl) - 1- (C 5-7 cycloalkyl) - methyl, 1,1 - diphenylmethyl, 1 - phenyl - 1 - [(halogen - or C 1-4 alkylsubstituted) - phenyl] - methyl, 1 - [(halogen- or C 1-4 alkyl-substituted) phenyl]-1-[(halogen- or C 1-4 alkyl - substituted) phenyl] - methyl, 1- [phenyl - (C 1-3 alkyl)] - 1 - [phenyl - (C 1-3 alkyl)]- methyl, 1-[phenyl-(C 1-3 alkyl)]- 1 -[(halogen- or - C i - i alkyl-subtsituted) phenyl-(C i - 3 alkyl)]- methyl, 1 - [(halogen - or C 1-4 alkyl-substituted) phenyl - (C 1-3 alkyl)] - 1 - [(halogen - or C 1-4 alkyl - substituted) phenyl - (C 1-3 alkyl)] - methyl, phenyl - (C 2-7 alkenyl), or 1 - [(unsubstituted or halogen- or C 1-4 alkyl-substituted) phenyl] - 1 - [(unsubstituted or halogen - or C 1-4 alkyl-substituted)phenyl-C 2-3 alkyl]-methyl are prepared by reacting fatty acids of the Formula I or the acid halides, lower alkyl esters, or glycerides thereof with amines of the Formula II or by reacting acid anhydrides of the Formula III wherein R<SP>2</SP> is the same as R or C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy with amines of the above Formula II. Pharmaceutical compositions, having cholesterol-lowering activity and suitable for oral administration contain the above novel fatty acid amides and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers.
