1280183 Making combustible gas FRIEDRICH UHDE GmbH 7 Aug 1969 [7 Aug 1968] 39669/69 Heading C5E An apparatus for cracking liquid or gaseous hydrocarbons, e.g. to make synthesis gas, at pressures in the range 5 to 50 atmos. comprises at least two furnaces connected in series for countercurrent flow of heating gases and the hydrocarbons which are indirectly heated. Each of the furnaces has a burner, the first one being operated with excess air to lower the temperature, and the heating gases leaving the apparatus are expanded in gas turbines which drive air compressors and a generator.
