Abstract

1303858 Gasifying fluid hydrocarbons ONIAGEGI 18 June 1970 [25 June 1969] 29636/70 Heading C5E An apparatus for catalytically steam-reforming fluid hydrocarbons, e.g. methane, under pressure to make an H 2 , CO mixture, includes a furnace containing a plurality of catalystcontaining tubes externally heated by burners, a compressor for delivering air to the burners, and a gas turbine supplied with exhaust gases from the furnace and driving the compressor and a second compressor for the product gases, which may be delivered to a secondary catalytic reforming stage. The gases leaving the turbine preheat the compressed air. The outlet pipe for the product gases passes through a bellows joint on the top of the furnace, and cooling air is delivered to the top space of the furnace, see Fig. 4 (not shown). The tubes include expansion bends at their lower ends.
