Abstract

1279817 Coating webs CAPSEALS PACKAGING PRODUCTS Ltd 4 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 55827/69 Heading D1L A method of coating the surface of a moving web 5 in which the coating material is formed into a curtain 2 by means of the coating head 1 and the web 5 is passed through a firmly mounted folding unit 3 prior to its passage to spaced guide rollers 4. At the folding unit 3 the longitudinal edges of the web 5 are folded under and this folded condition is maintained as the web moves in contact with the first of the guide rollers 4. During movement towards the second roller 4 the angle between the folded edge and the underside of the body of the web gradually increases, the web reverting to its full width at the second roller 4. The width of the curtain 2 exceeds the corresponding transverse dimensions of the unfolded portion of the web 5 so as to extend beyond the unfolded portion at each side thereof.
