Abstract

1279758 Electrostatic charging RANK XEROX Ltd 5 Nov 1970 [7 Nov 1969] 52676/70 Heading G2H A surface is uniformly charged by reciprocating over the surface a device comprising a plurality of needle electrodes alternately charged to a high potential and a low or zero potential during passage of the device in one direction, the potentials being reversed during passage of the device in the reverse direction. The electrodes may be in a single line, Fig. 5 (not shown) or may form a two dimensional oblique lattice Fig. 9 (not shown). In the former case, the device may comprise a pair of flexibly mounted terminal brush assemblies, the lower brushes 22<SP>1</SP> and 23<SP>1</SP> of the assemblies making contact with respective supply electrodes 24 and 24<SP>1</SP> during passage of the device in one direction and the upper brushes 22 and 23 making contact with the supply electrodes during passage in the opposite direction.
