Abstract
1279537 Heat-generating pipes CHISSO CORP 24 March 1970 [26 March 1969] 14247/70 Heading H5H A long liquid-transportation pipeline, comprising a plurality of pipe lengths 8 secured together end to end, is heated by a plurality of heat-generating ferromagnetic pipes 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, secured to each pipe length 8, corresponding pipes 1 or 1<SP>1</SP> of successive pipe lengths 8 being electrically discontinuous, Fig. 4, or imperfectly connected, Fig. 5, and respective A.C. conductors 2, 2<SP>1</SP> constituting a primary circuit extending through and insulated from each succession of said corresponding pipes 1 or 1<SP>1</SP>, forming a secondary circuit, so as to generate skin-effect current in the inner regions of the walls of the pipes thereby to heat the pipes. The secondary circuit includes the pipe length 8 or secondarycurrent paths interconnect corresponding end portions of those ferromagnetic pipes secured to the same pipe length. Where the pipe lengths 8 are of metal, the secondary-current paths also extend in the metal of the pipe lengths 8, as at 6 and 7. A heat insulating layer 11 encloses the pipe-line. Where pipes 1 are connected imperfectly by boxes 10, current flows through both the inner and outer surfaces at parts 12. British Specification 1,218,216 is referred to as is Specification 3,293,407 and Specification 460,224.
