Abstract

1279343 Stacking articles SVENSK INDUSTRIS KONSTRUKTIONS-OCH BERAKNINGSKONTOR SIKAB AB 7 April 1970 [8 April 1969] 16324/70 Heading B8C A machine for stacking layers of objects, e.g. bags 22 on a loading surface, e.g. a container 7, comprises an open-bottomed cap 8 having a top 16 provided with suction openings 17 communicating with a suction pipe 10 means 24 for feeding the objects from a conveyer surface 21, 26 into the cap 8 and forming a layer pressed against side walls 12, 13, 14 of the cap, valve means 19 for applying suction for engaging the layer against the top 16 by suction means 28 for displacement of the conveyer surface relative to the cap 8 to a position in which the bottom of the cap is exposed, and means 11 for positioning the cap relative to the loading surface for delivery of the layer of objects in the cap in which position the suction at the suction openings is interrupted by the valve means 19. As shown, the position of a container 7 is adjustable vertically downwardly step-by-step in synchronism with the delivery of layers from the cap into which the bags are pushed by a ram 24 along a slidable surface 26 forming part of the conveyer surface 21, 26. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the walls 12, 14 of the cap are displaceable towards each other against spring means (30) by a pneumatic cylinder (31). An additional wall opposite to wall 13 may be provided and operated similarly for compacting the layer in which case the surface 26 and the ram 24 are dispensed with, the cap being lowered over the bags 22 on the surface 21. A pneumatic cylinder 33 is operative through a lever 35 to disconnect a clutch on the drive mechanism of the machine, if there is a leakage of the vacuum at the cap due to a missing object in the cap. In alternative arrangements the surface 26 may be fixed, with the loading surface positioned beside the surface 26 or the bags may be moved directly into the cap by the surface 21.
