Abstract

HOWMET CORP 24 June 1969 31844/69 Heading B5A [Also in Division B3] Moulded sections of a plurality of shapes are produced from a die by locating one or more inserts in the die cavity to block off a portion or portions thereof, moulding a section in the remainder of the die cavity, removing the insert or inserts from the cavity and moulding another section in the cavity having the same shape as the first but with additional parts. A plurality of differently shaped sections may thus be produced, e.g. by transfer moulding, and are combined to produce a gang mould for metal casting. The mould sections may be made of alumina, zirconia, zircon, mullite, clay, graphite, alphaquartz, fused silica, high melting glass and other fused refractories, iron chromite, chromic oxide, titanium carbide, titanium beryllide, silicon carbide or other suitable carbides, beryllides and borides.
