Abstract

1279213 Silylation of hydroxyl compounds DOW CORNING CORP 31 Dec 1970 [9 April 1970] 62003/70 Heading C3S Organic compounds containing hydroxyl groups are silylated at the hydroxyl groups by reaction with silanes of the formula R n SiX 4-n in the presence of formamide, wherein R denotes a C 1-18 monovalent hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical, or a C 1-18 alkoxy radical, X denotes chlorine or C 1-2 acyloxy and n is 1, 2 or 3. The reactive hydroxy group may be provided an alcohol, phenol, silanol, carboxylic acid, hydroxylamine, oxime or hydroperoxide. Examples describe the preparation of 2-(trimethylsiloxy)ethyl methacrylate, tris-trimethylsiloxy propane, hexakis-trimethylsilylated sucrose, 3-chloropropyltriethoxysilane, dimethyldi - n - butoxysilane, trimethylsilyl methacrylate, 4 - (methylthio)phenoxytrimethylsilane, trimethylsilyl - tert. - butyl peroxide, 2 - (trimethylsiloxy)ethyl methacrylate and 1,1 - diphenyl - 1,3,3,3 - tretamethyl - disiloxane.
