Abstract
1,256,218. Silylalkylmercapto alcohols; polysiloxanes. DOW CORNING CORP. 27 May, 1970 [27 June, 1969], No. 25367/70. Headings C3S and C3T. Organosilicon compounds containing the group #SiRSCH(R<SP>1</SP>)CH(R<SP>1</SP>)OH, wherein R represents a divalent hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic unsaturation, R<SP>1</SP> represents hydrogen, C 1-6 alkyl. or C 1-6 halogenoalkyl, and the remaining free. valencies of the silicon atom being satisfied by alkoxy, alkoxyalkoxy or halogenoalkoxy radicals, by oxygen atoms of -SiOSilinkages or by monovalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radicals, are prepared by reacting corresponding organosilicon compounds containing the group #SiRSH with an alkylene oxide of the formula in the presence of an acidic or basic catalyst and preferably also in the presence of an alcohol as a promoting agent. Solvents may also be used. Examples describe the preparation of (Me 3 SiO) 2 MeSi(CH 2 ) 3 S(CH 2 ) 2 OH (Me 3 SiO) 2 MeSi(CH 2 ) 3 SCH 2 CH(OH)CH 2 Cl PhMeViSiOSiMe 2 CH 2 SCH 2 CH(Me)OH CF 3 CH 2 CH 2 (Me) 2 SiOSiMe 2 (CH 2 ) 3 SCH 2 CH (CH 2 F)OH, [HO(Et)CHCH 2 S(CH 2 ) 3 (C 6 H 11 )MeSiO] 4 Si HO(CH 2 ) 2 SC 18 H 32 Si(OMe) 3 , para-[HO(CH 2 ) 2 S]C 6 H 4 Si(OEt) 3 HO(CH 2 ) 2 CH 6 CH(Me)CH 2 Si(Me 2 )OCH(Me) 2 , HO(CH 2 ) 2 SC 6 H 10 Si(OCH 2 CH 2 OMe) 3 para-[HO(CH 2 ) 2 S]C 6 H 4 (CH 2 ) 2 Si(OCH 2 CH 2 Cl) 3 , para-[HO(CH 2 ) 2 S(CH 2 ) 2 ]C 6 H 4 (CH 2 ) 2 Si(OMe) 3 and a copolymer of C 18 H 37 SiO 1.5 , Et 2 SiO, Me(Ph)CHCH 2 Si(Me)O, ClC 6 H 4 SiO 1 . 5 and HO(Me)CHCH(Me)S(CH 2 ) 3 (Me)SiO Uses.-As priming agents for urethane plastics on wood or concrete; substrates, and as intermediates for silicon-alkyd resins.
