Abstract
1278782 Arcing preventing in switches A REYROLLE & CO Ltd 21 Oct 1969 [23 July 1968] 35041/68 Heading H1N A multibreak circuit breaking apparatus comprises two branch circuits X, Y, each consisting of one or more breaks, and a resistance 13 connected between the branches such that it is connected in parallel with breaks A which open first and in series with breaks B which open last. The difference in opening time may be achieved by operating the switches sequentially or by using different types of breaks which take different times to clear the opening arc. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) there are three A breaks and one B break in each branch circuit. Or (Fig. 3, not shown) there may be three A breaks in one branch, three B in the other. In a three-branch circuit (Fig. 4A) both resistors 14, 15 are in parallel with first breaks A; resistor 15 is in parallel with second break B and both are in series with last break C. The breaks may be formed by vacuum switches or sealed gas filled switches.
