Abstract

1278267 Phthalate esters IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 July 1969 [2 Aug 1968] 37040/68 Heading C2C A process of improving the electrical insulating properties of an ester of phthalic acid with an alcohol having 4 to 15 carbon atoms comprises contacting the ester with fuller's earth. Such esters are employed to plasticize polyvinyl chloride insulating materials. In the example, di-isodecyl phthalate, obtained by reacting an isodecanol mixture with phthalic anhydride in the presence of sulphuric acid, is heated with fuller's earth.
