Abstract
1278247 Phosphoric acid FISONS Ltd 4 Nov 1969 [15 Nov 1968] 54195/69 Heading C1A In the "wet process" production of phosphoric acid, occluded acid is recovered from the precipitated calcium sulphate by recrystallizing the separated precipitate from a suitable liquor, usually containing sulphuric and phosphoric acids, to which a reactive siliceous material has been added. The recrystallization is carried out under the appropriate conditions to give calcium sulphate in a different state of hydration to that originally precipitated, e.g. the hemihydrate is converted to purified gypsum which may be recovered as a by-product. Suitable siliceous materials include silicic acid, ground blast furnace slag, talc and particularly kieselguhr.
