Abstract

1277653 Cartons; packaging METAL BOX CO Ltd 20 May 1970 [18 June 1969] 30810/69 Headings B8C and B8P A paperboard carton has at least one of its ends secured by an adhesive which forms a firm seal on application but which degenerates to form a readily openable seal after a predetermined time. The carton comprises front, rear and end walls 1, 2, 3 and 4, respectively, upstanding from a bottom 5 and a lid 6 which is retained in a closed position by closure flap 7 secured as by a permanent adhesive or staples to the front wall 1. The end walls 3, 4 each include an end flap 8 arranged to be folded to underlie the lid 6. The non-permanent adhesive seal is effected between side flaps 9, which are either formed on the front and rear walls 1, 2 or the end walls 3, 4, and the end walls 3, 4 or front and rear walls 1, 2 as the case may be. The end walls 3, 4 in the embodiment illustrated are also held in their upstanding position by engagement between the side flaps 9 and slits 11 between the end walls 3, 4 and the end flaps 8. The carton allows the formation of a package wherein the contents are introduced through the open top of the carton and the lid subsequently permanently secured whilst access to the contents is possible by out folding the or both end walls once the non-permanent adhesive has degenerated.
