Abstract

1277407 Coating apparatus FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd 25 Sept 1969 [10 Oct 1968] 48146/68 Heading B2L [Also in Division B3] A method of lining the walls of an ingot mould or head box therefor comprises positioning within the mould or head box a cone or disc shaped member 1 rotating about a vertical axis and feeding to the periphery of the rotating member a lining composition, the speed of the rotating member being such that the lining composition is thrown therefrom onto the walls of the mould or head box. The rotating member is preferably reciprocated in the direction of its axis of rotation and the lining material fed to the rotating member by allowing the material to fall onto the member under the influence of gravity. A catching device may be located below the rotatable member to catch material tending to fall into the mould, the device consisting of a number of overlapping sheets flexibly linked to each other so that they may be caused to fit the cross-section of the mould. These sheets may act in the fashion of the overlapping leaves of a shutter diaphragm in a camera and may be made of metal, plastics or rubber.
