Abstract

1277390 Extruding MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 17 Dec 1970 [22 Dec 1969] 60044/70 Heading B3P A backward extrusion press comprises a turntable 27 with a set of dies 3 and a set of punches 2 which are moved successively under a ramming roller 9 mounted on a crank-shaft 8. The roller moves each punch downwards into its die to backward extrude a metal blank over the punch. The blanks are fed from a hopper 21 down a shoot 22 to a turret 26 which deposits one blank in each die. The turntable has an I-shaped axial section formed with upper and lower horizontal discs. The lower disc carries the dies 3 and the upper disc slidably carries punch holders 52 which are spring supported. The upper ends of the punch holders have rollers 56 which engage in a cam track 15 for lifting the punches and which is widened adjacent the ramming roller 9. The stroke of each punch is adjusted by rotating eccentric bushes 46, 46<SP>1</SP> for the crank-shaft 8 by worms 48, 48<SP>1</SP> and wormwheels 46a, 46a<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 8. The dies have backing blocks 59 and are adjustably mounted on the turntable by three bolts 110, 112, 112<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 15. The outermost bolts 112, 112<SP>1</SP> engage in threaded sleeves 113, 113<SP>1</SP> to each of which one arm of a double-arm lever 115, 1151 is pivoted. The levers 115, 115<SP>1</SP> have fixed central pivots 116, 116<SP>1</SP> and their other ends 118, 118<SP>1</SP> bear against the die 3 at 120 degrees angular spacing from the bolt 110. Each die also has an associated stripper 17, Figs. 3 and 11, which comprises a set of segments 101 urged inwards by springs 106. The segments engage the punch 2 to strip the extruded blank and also allow the punch to be tilted for removal from its holder, Fig. 13 (not shown).
