Abstract

1277270 Animal-stunning appliances OMARK INDUSTRIES Inc 16 Oct 1969 50901/69 Heading AIM [Also in Divisions B4 and F3] A driving cap comprises a deformable substantially cylindrically shaped cushioning pad 44 having a power pill 46 embedded in one end thereof, the pad being in use placed on the head of a drive pin with the pill opposite the drive pin. The pill is ignitable at no less than one pound second impulse. The drive pin may be a fastener 38 or a piston of a cattle stunning device. The pill is preferably of compacted nitrocellulose fibres having a density of approximately 1 gram/c.c. The pad 44 is made of P.T.F.E. or soft grade aluminium and is coated with a lubricant 48. As illustrated the fastener head is received in a recess in the pad. In the illustrated fastener driving tool a blow applied to knob 34 causes portion 29 of ram rod 26 to ignite the pill 46. The pad is then deformed into gas tight sealing engagement with bore 16. Housing 12 is preferably of moulded plastics, and barrel 14 is of hard material e.g. steel. A noise proof lining 22 is moulded in a guard 18. (For Figures see next column)
