Abstract

1277110 Coating apparatus SINCAT SOC INDUSTRIALE CATANESE SpA 20 Aug 1969 [21 Aug 1968] 41599/69 Heading B2L [Also in Divisions B5 C1 and F4] A fluidised bed for coating, granulating or drying comprises a frusto-conical base section 4 and a cylindrical upper section (not shown), a conveying pipe 8 for a principal gas stream and inlets for auxiliary gas streams in the conical sections which at their point of entry form angles in the range of 20-70‹ with the axis of the bed. As shown auxiliary air is fed into annular chambers A, B and passes through slots in the conical inner walls thereof into the fluidised bed, the streams so formed causing particles in the bed to be moved into the principal gas stream. At the top of the cylindrical section there is provided an air exhaust outlet and an overflow is provided to allow treated product to discharge continuously. An opening (13) is also provided in the cylindrical section to feed material or for recycling purposes. Reagents may be fed through a pipe 11. A granular fertilizer was coated with polyvinyl/acetate by passing the fertilizer through the opening 13 (Fig. 1 not shown) and feeding the apparatus with a 20% aqueous dispersion of a polyvinyl acetate through the nozzle 11. The resin content of the coated fertilizer was about 2% by weight of the fertilizer.
