Abstract

1277021 Coating compositions BERGER, JENSON & NICHOLSON Ltd 22 Oct 1969 [1 Aug 1968] 36870/68 Heading C3P [Also in Division C7] An aqueous electrophoretic coating composition comprises (A) 10-90 parts by weight of a homopolymer of a conjugated diene or a copolymer of a major proportion of the diene with an ethylenic aliphatic monomer free of carboxyl or hydroxyl groups and having a molecular weight of 500 to 20,000 and (B) 90-10 parts by weight of a salt of a base with a heat reaction product of an α,# ethylenic carboxylic acid or anhydride with an unsaturated fatty acid and a polyol or an ester of the fatty acid and polyol, the heat reaction product having an acid number > 40. The exemplified compositions are of heat degraded polybutadiene and the diethylamine salt of maleinized linseed oil or the diethylamine salt of the reaction product of maleic anhydride, linseed oil fatty acids and an epoxy resin. The first composition can be modified by replacing the degraded polybutadiene with stereospecific polybutadiene, polycyclopentadiene and butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer. The compositions may also contain pigments and cross-linking agents.
