Abstract

1425690 Coating composition FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 6 Sept 1974 [6 Sept 1973] 39022/74 Heading C3B A powder coating composition comprises a mixture of: (A) a copolymer of 5-20% by wt. of a glycidyl ester of a monoethylenically unsaturated acid, 2-10% by wt. of an α,#- olefinically unsaturated amide and 70-93% of one or more monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, which has a glass transition temp. 40-90‹ C. and M.W. 1500-15000 ; and (B) a dicarboxylic anhydride present so as to provide 0À3-1À2 anhydride groups per functional group (i.e. epoxy or amide group) of (A). A typical (A) comprises (by wt.) 17% glycidyl methacrylate, 8% methacrylamide, 35% butyl methacrylate and 40% methyl methacrylate. (B) may be monomeric, e.g. maleic, glutaric or phthalic anhydride or polymeric, e.g. polyazelaic polyanhydride. Conventional flow control agents, pigments, antistatic agents and cross-linking catalysts may additionally be present.
