Abstract

1276946 Printing apparatus SERVICE (ENGS) Ltd 19 April 1971 [4 April 1970] 16082/70 Heading B6C Hollow ware articles mounted on mandrel 56 are printed on by rolling contact with a moving offset printing member 160, which is carried on a support 148 and is moved relative to the support during printing by an actuating arm 180. Preferably the offset printing member 160 carries an offset surface 204 of, e.g. gelatine, and is movable together with its support 148 between a printing position and a position in which the offset surface 204 receives an image from an intaglio printing plate 14. By adjusting positions and angles, and by replacing the offset printing member 160, articles of differing shapes can be accommodated for printing. Registration of designs on handled cups is obtained by abutment of their handles on a rod extended by a pneumatic cylinder 82. The support 148 is raised, lowered and turned pneumatically and hydraulically. The intaglio printing plate 14 is inked by flow of ink from a valved container 288, and is swept by a reciprocating doctor blade 270.
