1276859 Brushes EJECTORET S A 24 June 1969 [25 June 1968 10 June 1969] 31706/69 Addition to 1215762 Heading A4K [Also in Division B8] In a holder for cosmetic paints wherein a cap 7 of a container body 1 carries a brush 3 in a relatively slidable tubular sheath 16 so that, in a first position, the sheath covers the brush hairs 4 and, in a second position, the sheath uncovers the brush hairs as described in the parent Specification, the neck 27 of the container is provided with a tubular brush-shaping element 32 having segments provided with inturned lips 33 adapted to define a preformed aperture 34 which shapes the brush when withdrawn therethrough. The brushshaping element is integral with the neck and may be surrounded by a resilient bush 26 urging the lips against one another. A resilient gland 31 is carried by the neck and wipes the sheath on removal thereof. On removal of the cap, the sheath passes through the segments which spring inwardly to define the aperture through which the brush is subsequently withdrawn. Various aperture configurations are illustrated in Figs.6-8 (not shown). After use, and prior to replacing the brush, the sheath is forced downwardly relative to the brush to disengage a locking rib 18 on the sheath extension 17 from an upper groove 22 in a brush holder 6 and relocate the rib in a lower brush holder groove 21 so that the sheath covers the brush hairs. The sheath and enclosed brush are forced passed the gland and shaping segments until the sheath extension abuts the neck end, Fig. 5 (not shown). On subsequent downward force, rib 18 is disengaged from groove 21 and re-engaged with groove 22 so that the brush hairs are uncovered. The container body is blow moulded of polyethylene and provided with an aluminium or brass casing 11. The remaining components are of various specified plastics except for the metal cap. In another embodiment, Figs. 9 to 17 (not shown), the brushshaping element comprises shaping segments 45 are integrally hinged intermediate their lengths at 52 to the neck. The upper ends of the segments collectively define an annular rib 55 engageable by an enlarged sheath end to urge the inturned lips at the lower ends of the segments together. A split diaphragm 61 is clamped between the neck and container body to avoid loss of contents.
