Abstract

1276579 Mixing apparatus polymerisation apparatus SNAM PROGETTI SpA 27 May 1970 [29 May 1969] 25586/70 Headings B1C and B1X [Also in Division C3] Apparatus suitable for mixing and heating or cooling viscous liquids such as those produced in polymerisation reactions comprises a cylindrical vessel I having a plurality of radially disposed members 2 located along the axis of the vessel, the members acting as baffles and providing heat-exchange surfaces, and a rotatable shaft 3 provided with arms carrying blades 6 passing from one end wall of the vessel through each of the members to the other end wall, the blades being arranged to scrape the heat-exchange surfaces of the members when the shaft is rotated. The walls of the vessel and the radially disposed members may be hollow so that a heat transfer fluid may be passed therethrough. The members may be provided with ports 7 which are staggered so that the liquid flows radially outwards and inwards in its passage through the vessel. The arms may also be provided with blades to scrape the inside surface of the walls.
