Abstract
1276085 Pyrotechnic signal devices PAINSWESSEX Ltd 27 May 1969 [28 May 1968] 25461/68 Heading F3A A signal device comprises a discharge tube 1, a pen-type firing device 3 for a percussion cap 22, and an ejection and igniting charge 6 for a rocket 2, the rocket comprising a signal device 13, a propellant 10 and a tubular portion 4 provided with apertures 5 so as to act as a stabilizing tail for the rocket. The signal device is ignited by a fuse 16 leading from the propellant and comprises a free-fall or parachute, flare or smoke signal, photoflash, radar chaff, a cluster of stars or a smoke trail device. The rocket is spun by means of a canted exhaust nozzle or by co-operation of a skirt or pin with rifling in the discharge tube. A cocking member 26 engaged in a branch arm of a slot 27 normally holds a striker 23 in a semi-retracted position. If the charge 6 is omitted, the propellant 10 is ignited via a fuse-cord. The signal device 13 is ejected from the rocket in flight. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the rocket is contained in a cartridge and is fired from a Very pistol.
