Abstract

1337643 Multiple warheads DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 19 April 1971 [3 Feb l970] 20848/71 Heading F3A A device for dispersal from the warhead of a bomb, rocket or projectile comprises a plurality of barrels 2, Fig. 1, containing shells 7, a parachute 1 or other braking arrangements such as flaps, and a weight 5 for maintaining the device substantially vertical during its descent. The weight 5 is in the form of a tube having a percussion or electrical fuse at its lower end 10. The fuse serves to ignite a detonating charge 9 for a propellant 8 when the end 10 strikes the ground. If the fuse is mechanical, it may be released pneumatically at the time of firing. The barrels may be fixed or pivoted to a central member 4, and. in the latter case. can be retained in a folded condition inside the warhead 13, Fig. 2. The tubes 5 of adjacent devices fit inside one another. The devices are ejected from the rear of the warhead at predetermined time intervals when the tail portion 14 is separated therefrom by timing means. The devices may be connected together by a line which enables them to be accurately spaced apart. The line is arranged to break at a predetermined tension. In other embodiments, the stabilizing weights are attached directly to the barrels 2 or to the central member 4 by a flexible connecting link. In the latter case the weights are provided with a recess for housing the braking means of an adjacent device. The shells may be antipersonnel, smoke indicator, anti-tank shells or mines.
