Abstract

1276030 Dispensing particles in liquid COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 8 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 62655/69 Heading B1C Apparatus for dispersing polyacrylamide particles in water comprises a vertical or steeply inclined vortex chamber 2 having a larger diameter portion 4 to which water is supplied tangentially, forming a film on a smaller diameter portion 8, on to which the particles are discharged by a vibrating conveyer 30. The vortex chamber discharges to a pipe 26 leading to a draft tube 16 cooperating with an impeller 14. In operation sufficient water is introduced to cover the impeller, which draws air down the draft tube 16 and pipe 26; the particles are then supplied and dispensed; and additional water is added to fill the tank 12. The quantity of particles supplied is determined by the capacity of the measuring chamber 34. The mixture is supplied to a stock tank (not depicted) fall of level in which causes the tank 12 to discharge and initiates automatically a cycle of mixing operations. In modifications the inner guard tube 10 of the vortex chamber (see also Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) may be dispensed with, and the vibrating conveyer 30 may be replaced by a screw or pneumatic conveyer.
