Abstract

Proportioning device for pulverulent prods. is intended for the continuous distribution of powdered flocculating additives to a water supply before filtration, making use of an ultrasonic vibrator. The device consists of a hopper with a vibrating plate. A potentiometer increases or reduces the amplitude of the vibrations and hence the rate of delivery of the dry prod. Pre-regulation is obtd. by means of a diaphragm and the additive falls as discrete particles intot he receiving fluid in the diluting mixer with its conical extension. Water under pressure enters at two points. The inlets are arranged tangentially and create a vortex in the mass of the receiving liq., thus completing the mixing of the additive. The mixt. leaves by the pipe with its control valve. Distribution of a perfectly balanced proportion of additive is homogeneous and the mixt. can be used for any further operation, e.g. filtration. There are no moving parts so maintenance is extremely reduced and the reliability of the device renders it applicable to the public service.
