Abstract

1275871 Laminates TAC CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS Ltd 19 April 1971 [12 Jan 1970] 1457/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] A method of manufacturing a panel comprising facing sheets, e.g. of asbestos-cement with a core of foamed phenol-formaldehyde resin between them is characterized in that a phenol-formaldehyde resin and a blowing agent e.g. tetrachloromonofluoroethane are mixed together, the resultant mixture is cooled to a temperature of from 0‹ to 50‹ F. and subsequently an acid catalyst, e.g. concentrated hydrochloric acid is mixed into the resin and the blowing agent and the entire mixture is supplied to a mould which is heated to a temperature of from 100‹ to 160‹ F. to foam and harden the mixture. The facing sheets may be applied to the mould and united with the core during the foaming step; alternatively the facing sheets may be applied to the core after formation.
