1275782 Twisting RHODEN PARTNERS Ltd 12 Nov 1970 [14 Aug 1969] 40786/69 Heading B3E [Also in Division B8] A multi head bar twisting machine comprises two or more bar twisting units 31, 32, 33 and 34 located one above the other, a vertical conveyer 25 adapted to be supplied with untwisted bars and serving to convey them in uniformly spaced parallel relationship and at right angles to their length along a vertical path located on one side of the bar twisting units. Walkways 14, 15 (Fig. 1, not shown) for machine operators are provided alongside each twisting head and a crane places a bundle of untwisted bars on a row of supoprts 16. The conveyer 25 is driven by an electric motor and has inclined sprags 28 at spaced intervals equal to the sprags 18 on a horizontal conveyer 17. The bars are transferred to the twisting units by hydraulically operated pivoted transfer arms 35, 36, 37 and 38 provided with crutches 43, 44, 45 and 46. The transfer and removal operations of each bar from one or other of the twisting units is performed in a predetermined sequence and at intervals of time which have a fixed relationship to the rate of descent of the conveyer. The twisted bars are removed from the units by hydraulically pivoted guide rails 51, 52, 53 and 54 along which the bars roll until they are caught in the sprags 28 of the vertical conveyer. At the end of the conveyer run the bars are discharged on to inclined rails 60 which guide them into the tines of several pivoted forks 58 where they are bound together and discharged into a cradle 61. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the horizontal and vertical conveyer 17 and 25 are replaced by a single conveyer comprising belts 101 passing round pulleys 24, 26 and 102. A row of bar supports 107 feed each bar on to the sprags 108 of the ascending conveyer run 106. This embodiment dispenses with the elevated walkways for the operators. Twisted bars removed by the pivoted guide rails roll on to stationary guide bars 112, 113 and 114 before engaging the conveyer sprags 108. The twisted bars are discharged on to inclined rails 60 and into a rotary bundling device 118.
