Abstract
1275138 Treating acrylic fibres ROLLSROYCE Ltd 25 Nov 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 62075/69 Heading B5B [Also in Division Cl] Acrylic fibres are heated under tension and/or while restraining shrinkage in a bath of silicone oil, e.g. methyl phenyl silicone, at 200-300‹ C. An inert gas may be bubbled through the bath. Treatment improves the physical properties of carbon fibres prepared in a subsequent pyrolysis step. Pyrolysis may be preceded by a further heating in an oxygen-containing atmosphere, e.g. by bubbling air or oxygen through the silicone bath.
