Abstract

1275011 Mixing liquids in proportions SUN ENG (RICHMOND) Ltd 5 Jan 1971 [6 Jan 1970] 642/70 Heading B1C Apparatus for making fire foam, Fig. 1, comprises tanks 4, 5 of water and foam compound which are mixed and supplied to a foam generator (not depicted) by a variable output pump 1. Alteration in the pressure at the suction side of the pump due to variation in the number of foam outlets in use is communicated by a pipe 17 to a cylinder 14 and piston 15, causing movement of a slide valve 12 to vary correspondingly the supply to the pump while maintaining the ratio of the constituents constant. The valve 12 may be embodied as a cylinder, Fig. 3, having in its surface six axially-directed slots of which five admit water from inlets 20 and one admits foam compound from inlet 9 and some water, the mixture being discharged axially. The valve is moveable axially by the cylinder and piston 14, 15 as described above (see also Fig. 2, not shown) and may also be rotationally adjusted to vary the ratio of the constituents.
