Abstract
1,274,966. Soluble core. KARL SCHMIDT G.m.b.H. 13 May, 1970 [16 May, 1969], No. 23246/70. Heading C3N. A water-soluble pressed and then sintered core comprises sodium chloride and/or potassium chloride, up to 10% by weight of one or more of borax, magnesia or talc for increasing the resistance of the core to thermal shock, and from 0À1 to 4%, preferably 0À5-2À4%, by weight of water glass. A specific example describes a core comprising 92À0% common salt, 5À0% borax, 1À5% magnesia, 1À0% talc and 0À5% water glass. The core is made by subjecting the mix to a pressure between 1 and 10 kp./ sq. mm. to form a pressing and then submitting the resulting pressing to a sintering process at 500-750‹ C.
