Abstract

1,274,644. Alloys; chromizing, ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd. July 3, 1969 [July 11, 1968], No. 33068/68. Headings C7A and C7F. A composition for use in chromizing ferrous metal substrates consists, for ever 100 parts by weight of Cr, of (a) 0À5-6 parts of Mo and/or Nb (optionally containing up to 10% of its own weight of Ta) and/or V, (b) 1-10 parts of Al and/or Si, (c) less than 0À25 parts of C, and (d) 25-60 parts of Fe. Powdered composition with a particle size finer than 100 BS mesh is compacted on to the substrate which is then heated in a halogen- or halide-containing atmosphere at a temperature in excess of 800‹C. Such atmosphere may be generated by a layer of halide e.g. ferrous chloride applied on top of the Cr-containing composition.
