Abstract

1,274,624. Thermal regerators. LINDE A.G. 19 April, 1971 [20 Feb., 1970], No. 22192/71. Heading F4K. In a thermal regenerator including a plurality of cylindrically wound baffles 1 comprising corrugated metal strips forming zones of differing density along the regenerator axis 8, one of the zones being a condensation zone 19, the angle between the regenerator axis 8 and the direction of the corrugations of the metal strips in the condensation zone 19 is smaller than the corresponding angle in the other zones. As shown the baffle 1 comprises an uncorrugated metal strip 4 and three corrugated metal strip 5. The strip 4 contains series 6 of grooves 7, the direction of the grooves 7 and that of the corrugations 9 of the strips 5 being parallel to the regenerator axis 8. The condensation zone 19 is adjoined by further zones 20, 21, 22 in which the baffles consist of sheet metal strips corrugated obliquely with respect to the regenerator axis. The density of the regenerator is greatest in the condensation zone 19, smallest in zone 20 and then increases towards the cold end 18.
