Abstract

A carrier bag has front, rear and side'panels, with reinforcing layers on the front and rear panels, a handle attached to the panel which is to be folded in first, the handle being made of flexible resilient material with end portions 46, Fig. 2 secured to the layer, and a loop 36 of material between the end portions, at least one end portion 46 terminating at an edge region of the panel, and an opening 40 in the opposite panel through which loop 36 may be passed, the folding forming a box-like top. The end portions 46 may be fixed to the panel by staples 42, 43 and the ends extend toward the upper edge of the first panel, so that the handle may be applied from a continuous length of material, and the ends chopped off at or just beyond the edge of the panel Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 8, the handle may have its end portions lying along the panel, when it is necessary to cut the handle material together with apertures 86.
