Abstract

1,274,412. Disc brakes. P. DUNSTALL. 19 April, 1971 [2 Feb., 1970] No. 4933/70. Heading F2E. A motorcycle leg member 1, forming at least part of one leg of a front or rear wheel fork, has, integral therewith, a disc brake rod housing 2. The housing 2 has a blind bore 11, accepting one or two brake pads and corresponding actuating hydraulic cylinders, and traversed by a slot 10, for the rotary brake disc, the disc passing between two pads when two pads are used. The cylinders communicate with a single inlet 17 via passages 15, and have bleed passages in the housing 2. The rotary brake disc is located on one end of the wheel spindle. Two such leg members 1 may be used for each wheel one on either side of the wheel, with corresponding brake discs. The housing 2 extends from the leg part of the member 1 in the direction of forward rotation of the wheel to reduce brake chatter.
