Abstract

1,273,867. Filling apparatus. HAVER & BOECKER. 24 Sept., 1970 [24 Sept., 1969], No. 45652/70. Heading B8C. Apparatus for filling a bag 7 comprises a vertically movable spout formed by a pair of flaps 12, 13 adapted to be inserted in closed position into the mouth of the bag 7 and to be expanded to open the bag and clamp it against jaws 15, 16, and at least two holders which engage the lateral edges of the bag and are movable inwardly against the resistance of a spring as the flaps open the bag. Each holder may comprise a pair of jaws which grip an edge of the bag, or a finger engaging the inside of an edge. The flaps 12, 13 and jaws 15, 16 are mounted on pivots 10, 11. A filling tube 26 extends between the flaps. Pinch bars 27, 28 can close or constrict the tube. Air escapes from the bag between the outside of the tube and the flaps. The tube or the hopper to which it is connected may be shaken. Grippers 6 connected to conveyer chains move the bag through the filling station and to and through a sealing station, with the bag resting on a lattice conveyer, the slats of which may be vibrated.
