Abstract

1,273,631. Arc electrode mounting. INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI EO PATONA AN UKSSR. 9 May, 1969, No. 23705/69. Heading H5H. A non-consumable arc electrode 1 is mounted in a thin walled casing 4 which extends into a hollow body 2 to which it is secured, so that coolant supplied to body 2 will surround the casing 4 and thus cool it and the electrode 1. This arrangement ensures that the exposed end of the electrode is adequately cooled. Coolant liquid or gas is fed into the hollow body 2 by a pipe 3, which may be of plastics, and removed through a lateral pipe. The lower end of the pipe 3 extends nearly to the bottom of body 2 to ensure circulation over the entire surface of casing 4. Casing 4 is made of copper, body 2, through which current is supplied to the electrode, is made of brass, bronze or aluminium and electrode 1 is made of tungsten, zirconium or molybdenum. The above device may be used in arc burners or plasma torches for welding, cutting or powder coating.
