To obviate buckling a metal foundationpile comprises parallel longitudinally-orientated bars 1 interconnected by strips 2 and an openwork shoe 3, which are secured by welding. The axes of the bars are disposed at the longitudinal edges of a regular right prism having three or more lateral faces. Preferably each bar is square in cross-section. Alternatively, each bar has a separate shoe, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The pile may have a plurality of elements connected end-to-end, each element comprising said bars and strips.
