Abstract
1,272,963. Flare stack burners. SMOKEBAN MFG. Inc. 23 July, 1969 [25 July, 1968], No. 37019/69. Heading F4T. A flare stack burner comprises a centrally disposed gas conduit 11 open at the lower end for communication with a flare stack 10, the upper end being at least partially closed; and a plurality of ciroumferentially spaced apart gas conducting channels 14 extending radially outward from and in communication with the conduit 11 and each having in an upper segment thereof an orifice 16 extending the entire length of the segment. Each of the orifices 16 is partially restricted by a lip 21 attached to one wall thereof. A shroud 42 coaxial with the conduit 11 may be attached to each of the channels 14 by members 44 which are V-shaped in vertical cross-section each having the apex of the V below the upper edge of each channel which aid flame maintenance at low gas flow rates. A pressure control plate 27 rotatably responsive to gas pressure is attached to a wall 18 of each channel 14 to restrict the gas flow therethrough. The conduit 11 has at its 1 wer end a damper 22 comprising a plurality of sector shaped gates 23 rotatably mounted on headers 24 so as to be responsive to gas pressure. The conduit 11 may terminate at its upper end in a valve ring (36), Fig. 4 (not shown), having a conical valve member (35) seated in spaced apart relation thus leaving an annular gap (37) and being vertically movable in response to gas pressure. To aid induction of air high pressure steam is distributed from steam nozzles 47. Alternatively the burner may be mounted on a flare stack including an annular air conduit.
